As people age, eyelid muscles weaken, skin stretches and fat accumulates around the eyes giving a tired and aged look.
Surgery of the eyelids, also known as blepharoplasty can give you a younger, firmer eye area by removing excess skin, fat and muscle.
Upper Eyelid Surgery: An incision will be made along the natural crease of upper eyelids. The excess skin will be removed. Afterwards the fat will be removed and the sagging eyelid muscle will be trimmed. A tape will be applied to hold the wound attached for few days.
Lower Eyelid Surgery: The incision is made below the lashes on the lower eyelid. The skin will be seperated from the muscle and fatty tissue and excess skin will be removed. The incision will be closed with very fine sutures.
Transconjuctival Eyelid Surgery: If the skin of the lowerlid is in good condition only the fat pad can be removed through an incison inside the lower lid so that no visible scar will be left behind.

After the Surgery:
Work: Most people feel ready to go back to work after 7-8 days.
The stitches are removed after 4-5 days. Swelling and Bruising: The eyes are swollen for few days. Keep your head elevated (day and night) for few days. Also sleeping in 45 degree elevated head sidte of the bed is advised. You will be receiving eye drops from us against swellung and eye redness. You may shower on the fourth day following surgery. Please do not rub your eyes! You may wear make-up beginning 5 days after operation. Contact lenses can be worn 6-7 days after surgery. Your eyes may feel dry and itchy and you may have excessive tearing, sensitivity to light or visual problems mainly due to eye drops (blurred vision). First after 3 days you should start reading (large prints) and watch TV. After three weeks most of the signs of the surgery will fade. Remember to wear sun glasses at the beginning. Avoid activities that will raise blood pressure such as lifting, sport and bending for few weeks. About six months after surgery only a nearly unvisible white scar will remain.
